Annually 400,000 square meters of handmade Persian carpets are produced in West Azarbaijan Province, where 110,000 individuals are involved in carpet weaving.
There are 17 types of carpets in the country and their differences are in the quality, knots, designs, colors, warp and woof, IRNA reported.
Azarbaijan is famous for its carpet weaving industry for centuries. In Tabriz, the provincial capital, carpets with various motifs are produced. The warp is made of cotton. The old carpets of Tabriz are mostly red-colored with medallion motif; however, they have no exclusive designs. Silk carpets have long been woven in Tabriz and are of the same high quality as Kashan carpets.
