He said student organizations including Basij (volunteers), the Union of Students’ Islamic Associations, the Red Crescent Youth Organization, and the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talent, will offer a variety of summer programs to students.

Around 3.5 million students participated in summer camps in the previous year, reports IRNA.

The programs this summer include Khwarizmi ( Persian mathematician and astronomer) Festivals, sports competitions, physical education and tourism, life skills education, vocational training, beautification of schools, religious programs, blogging and computer gaming.

The Ministry of Education plans to establish 3,000 temporary specialized centers to counsel students on university course selection in late June, he said. All services will be free of charge.

Qur’an and Islamic thoughts’ contests will be held in Shiraz and Khorasan Razavi Province, for 3,200 boys and girls. Two arts and cultural festivals with 1,900 participants will be held at Isfahan Shahid Beheshti and Nishapur Shahid Rajaei camps as well.

Special functions for 30,000 student in the last week of the holy month of Ramadan (July 11-18), social skills workshops for 10,000 students, ‘parliament camp’ for 150 students in Mashhad, border areas’ student camp, a conference for 1,200 directors of cultural educational centers, pilgrimage to Mashhad for 8,000 students and to other holy shrines for 5,000 students, are among the programs, Kaffash said.

He said the Free Book Day scheme was carried out successfully in the past academic year in 2,151 primary schools, and will be executed in more schools this year.
