Coastal security stations have been set up in 110 beachfronts in the northern provinces of Iran, and will start operating this week, said Commander Saeed Montazerolmahdi, a spokesperson of the police force. “As summer fast approaches and people head towards tourist sites and beaches, the security units are coordinating with the relevant organizations to ensure public safety and security,” he said, Mehr News Agency reported.

The number of people who drowned at sea saw a 50% drop in the last Iranian year (ended March 20) compared with the year before. “Last year 2,500 people were rescued by the coast guards,” he said.
