The drug methamphetamine (known as meth or crystal) has found its way into tobacco packs for hookahs (water pipes), which “are being served in certain traditional restaurants and coffeehouses,” said sociologist Majid Abhari.
“A new special form of crystal-injected tobacco is currently offered in the market in normal tobacco packs in two sizes of big and small, and can be easily bought and smoked via hookahs,” he said, Mehr News Agency reported.
The packs are mostly imported illegally from Iraq in the packaging of hookah tobacco.
Abhari warned that in addition to the crystal, additives and fungi that grow within the tobacco can lead to blindness, tachycardia (abnormally fast heart beat), and delusion.
