Food packages produced in Iran with ‘halal’ (a symbol representing foods permissible for Muslims to eat or drink under Islamic law) labels have been well-received by Muslims across the world, said Dr. Hossein Rastegar, head of the Food and Drug Control laboratories, affiliated to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“By promoting the use of halal labelling on food products, Iran can take advantage of the huge Muslim population worldwide, as well as ensure a strong presence in the international food industry,” he said, quoted by Mehr News Agency.

Halal food specifies how the food must be prepared and what is allowed as prescribed by Islamic law.
