Nearly 30% of road accidents in Iran result from dizzy spells due to sleep deprivation killing 18,000 people annually. Therefore, the Touring and Automobile Club has organized awareness and education workshops on sleep deprivation for 5000 drivers. “Priority will be given to educate 2,000 drivers who are regular users of the Mashhad-Tehran route, where the highest number of road mishaps takes place, Abolqasem Iraji, CEO of the club said, quoted by Iran newspaper.”The workshops will be conducted by psychologists, doctors, and police, and have been welcomed by drivers.” The International Automobile Federation has approved the content of the workshops, funding parts of its costs.  In the next phase, the workshops will target approximately 5,000 drivers frequently commuting on the Tehran –Shiraz, Shiraz- Bushehr, and Tehran-Yazd-Bandar Abbas routes.

It has also been planned to train 40,000 drivers on tourist routes as well as 600,000 truck drivers on other routes.
