Iran is among 72 countries that have achieved the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) of halving the proportion of the chronically undernourished, the FAO says. The number of hungry people in the world has dropped to 795 million – 216 million fewer than in 1990-92 – or around one person out of every nine, says the latest edition of the annual hunger report ‘The State of Food Insecurity in the World’ (SOFI) 2015, Mehr News Agency reported.

A majority - 72 out of 129 - of the countries monitored by the FAO, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, have achieved the MDG target of halving undernourishment by 2015, said FAO representative to Iran, Serge Nakouzi.
