Prof. Peter Karayiannis, a renowned global researcher in hepatitis from Cyprus, was conferred the Kowsar award at the 6th International Hepatitis Conference, which opened at Tehran’s Razi Convention Center in the presence of Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, chairman of the Expediency Council, on Wednesday.
A young Armenian-Iranian researcher, Christian Hartounian was conferred the Yass award in the category of emerging young scientist in hepatitis, Mehr News Agency reported. “The Yas Award is given to an outstanding young Iranian researcher every year,” said Dr. Moayed Alavian, head of the Tehran Hepatitis Center.
Under Rafsanjani’s presidency in the 1990s, Hepatitis B vaccination technology and Hepatitis C treatment, received a major boost. “I am happy to see it has been prolific,” the former president said.
