More school transportation vehicles will be equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System) for smart vehicle tracking in the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21) as well as an SMS-based alert system for parents to inform them of their children’s arrival, said Ali Asghar Farhadi, director general of Parents-Teachers Association at the education ministry.

“The association is responsible for student transport, transport charges and training drivers. The plan was implemented in certain regions last year, and is set to expand,” he was quoted by ISNA as saying. The GPS is implemented by Iran Taxi Company, and school vehicles are monitored by the traffic police.
