Babak Yektaparast, an official at the Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) has denied Iranian women are anemic.
Eighty percent of the women don't have anemia. Unfortunately, such misconceptions have resulted in lack of blood donation by them.
Iran has a 78 million population, according to the latest statistics. Women comprise 49.5 percent and among them only 20% are anemic.
As women have healthier blood they can promote blood donation culture and help the sick, he said, as reported by IRNA.
At present, 18 million women are eligible to donate, but unfortunately they don’t participate in this important task at the level expected.
He criticized the fact that last year only 82,000 donated blood and hoped they would actively participate in this important social duty.
