The employment quota for the physically challenged in state jobs will increase to five percent from the current three, said managing director of the State Welfare Organization (SWO) Dr. Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei.

“The matter is being pursued and is to be finalized soon,” he said, adding that currently there are 1.5 million disabled people in the country of which 1.2 million are under SWO coverage.

“The bill for the 3% quota for the disabled was ratified in 2004; there was no recruitment in the past two years but the law will be implemented this year in cooperation with the Management and Planning Organization,” Mohseni Bandpei said, reports IRNA.

Earlier, minister of cooperatives, labor and social affairs Ali Rabiei had said the physically challenged will be provided with ample and comprehensive support in entrepreneurship activities. “The organization for entrepreneurship of the disabled is currently being structured,” he said, on the sidelines of the inauguration of the first sports and cultural Olympiad for the hearing-impaired in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province.

Noting the employment and engagement of tens of people with disabilities in several provinces, Rabiei said they will be encouraged to participate in economic activities. “They can even benefit from low-interest loans offered by Omid Entrepreneurship Fund.”

The Technical and Vocational Training Organization (TVTO) is also cooperating in training the disabled who show high learning capabilities.

“In addition, employers will be given incentive packages dubbed ‘subsidy support’ by the government to further incorporate the differently-abled,” he added.
