An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale jolted Kashmar county in the western part of Khorasan Razavi Province on Wednesday.

According to the Seismography Center of Tehran University’s Geophysics Institute, the quake occurred at 01:58 A.M local time.

Tweny people who were injured were treated as outpatients, YJC reported.

Iran is frequently hit by tremors. In 2003 tens of thousands of people were killed in a quake which flattened Bam in Kerman Province. More than 300 people died in two quakes in northwestern Iran in August this year.
