On the occasion of Teacher’s Day in Iran, observed annually on May 2, 66 teachers imprisoned for unintentional criminal acts are planned to be freed, said Asadollah Jolayi, chief of Iran’s Diah (blood money) Center. “All of them have been convicted in the second half of last year (ended March 20) on various charges including financial debts or sponsoring debtors whose checks bounced,” IRNA quoted him as saying. The absolution applies to teachers in 19 provinces including seven from Ilam, six each from Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad and Kordestan. Those exonerated are married and most are breadwinners with children.
