Duration of compulsory military service will remain 21 months in the current year (started March 21), said General Musa Kamali, head of the conscription office.
Last year it was announced that the national service would increase from 21 months to 24 months in the New Year but due to a surplus of conscripts, the decision was revoked.
All Iranian males become eligible for military service at 18. However, college students can benefit from a temporary exemption, while others can seek exemption for medical reasons or if they have to care for an elderly parent.
