The gap between women and men caught in the cycle of poverty has continued to widen in recent years, a phenomenon commonly referred to as “the feminization of poverty”.
There is even a wide chasm between women themselves. . At present, Iranian women are divided into two categories; namely educated entrepreneurs and breadwinners who are mostly poor and uneducated, ISNA quoted Fereshteh Saljughi, director general of women’s affairs department at Khorasan Razavi Province as saying.
Female-headed households are poorer than other households and more vulnerable to social ills and therefore need special attention, she added.
