One of the major tasks of the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) is collecting donors’ plasma which is used for the production of certain drugs by the pharmaceutical companies, said Dr. Ali Akbar Pour-Fathollah, head of the organization.
“Since each donor can donate plasma up to 24 times per year, private blood collection centers have received permission from IBTO to cover commuting costs of the donors,” ISNA Quoted him as saying. However, donors are not paid for donating plasma.
So far, 30 private centers have been granted plasma collection permits, of which 6 are currently operating.
