The first phase of immunization plan to vaccinate all refugee and migrant children below the age of 5 against polio will be launched from April 18-21. The second phase will take off from May 23-26. The vaccinations are completely free of charge, said Hossein Sajediyan, an official at the Iranian health ministry’s centre for disease control.
The focus of the immunization plan is on immigrants from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh, ISNA reported.
The plan aims to maintain the achievements of national polio eradication program and will be conducted in urban and rural health centers.
“Since 2001, no new cases of polio have been reported in the country,” Sajedian added.
