An official at the National Organization for Civil Registration announced that according to new rules, the name of a former spouse can now be removed from the identity booklet (shahnaz-name) upon request. According to ISNA, Mohsen Esmaeeli said in case of death or divorce the name of the spouse may be deleted but only after the person remarries and the marriage is officially registered.
