Women comprised 20% of candidates for the city council assistants’ elections held on Friday. Chief Election Commissioner Morteza Tallaei said he personally believed that women can play a significant role in improving communities “due to their profound insight and ability to identify and address problems.” He added that 1,800 ballots were set up in 354 neighborhoods with each electing 7 members to take charge of their neighborhood affairs.
Identifying needs and ‘’acting as liaison to the city council’’ for conducting civic affairs are among the leading roles of city council assistants, ISNA reported.
