Iran’s women parliamentarians held a meeting with their Italian counterparts on the sidelines of the 59th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York. At the meeting on Monday on the request of the Italian side, four Italian women MPs met with two women MPs from the Iranian Majlis. The two sides welcomed the opportunity to exchange views, calling it “a step towards the development and promotion of friendly relations between the two countries,” Mehr News Agency reported. Both sides also condemned the atrocities and violence committed by the so-called Islamic State (IS) against innocent people, especially women and children in Iraq and Syria, calling for serious action by the international community and the United Nations. In addition, the status of women in access to health care, higher education, and the justice system were discussed.
