The reason behind the contaminated vials in a Tehran eye clinic that led to 15 patients becoming blind “was due to the misconduct of certain individuals trying to gain more profit.” Minister of Health Hassan Hasemi said as soon as the cause was determined by the ministry, the case was sent to the judiciary and his ministry has no authority on the issue anymore, ISNA reports. He added that a directive had been issued for the patients to be treated free of charge, but said recovery of their eyesight is ‘’far-fetched.’’
