Police Chief Brigadier General Esmail Ahmadi Moqaddam said on Tuesday that “in the age of information making proper use of communications technologies is unavoidable and a must for progress.”

Using different technologies for communications “such as Facebook, Viber and WhatsApp in the present world are inevitable, but it is important to take necessary measures and supervision by responsible bodies to help proper use of cyber space,” Moqaddam told reporters in the northwestern city of Ardebil, IRNA said.

He urged the Supreme Council of Cyberspace (SCC) to speed up formulating policies for users of social networks. The SCC is tasked with devising Iran’s Internet policies.

Moqaddam made the remarks while commenting on a recent report that said Iranians should stop using social networks including Facebook, WhatsApp and Viber within 30 days.
