The number of daily trips within Tehran metropolis is close to 17 million. The share of taxis in urban transportation is 23%, providing transport to over 4.5 million individuals; therefore “with standardization of cab drivers’ behavior we can help address city traffic problems,” said Teymour Hosseini, chief of Tehran Traffic Police. He pointed to the ‘white line’ plan as effective in correcting “unruly driving,” Mehr News Agency reported. The plan includes punishment for violations such as lane jumping and vehicles’ crossing into pedestrian areas. The two violations incur fines up to $13 and $6 respectively.
