More than one-fifth of the country’s population lives in the metropolis of Tehran.
The city has a capacity for 8.6 million people while the current population is about 12 million, IRNA quoted Seyed Hossein Hashemi, Tehran governor as saying.
However, compared to cities such as Paris, Tehran’s density “is still not high.”
“Iran comprises 1331 cities and 9 metropolises including Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, Shiraz, Rasht and Arak,” he added.
