Iran’s First Artificial Heart Transplant Successful

For the first time in the country, artificial heart transplantation surgery was conducted successfully  in Masih Daneshvari Hospital, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Alef News Agency reported.

The operation was performed on a 57-year-old patient with severe heart failure. The surgery was led by Dr. Zargham Hossein Ahmadi and Dr. Babak Sharif Kashani.

Artificial hearts are typically used to bridge the time to heart transplantation, or to permanently replace the heart in case heart transplantation is impossible.
