While 500 illegal migrants have been deported in the current year (ends March 20), however, there has been no drop in the number of illegal residents, mostly Afghans, in the country, said deputy interior minister Hossein Zolfaqari. In a recent meeting between Iranian and Afghan officials, it was decided “to form a special committee to organize Afghan migrants in Iran,” he said. Zolfaqari added that the ban against hiring illegal migrants is in place and “all organizations and businesses should abide by it.”
