Heart failure is the number one cause of death among the capital’s residents. Managing director of Beheshte-Zahra Cemetery in Tehran Akbar Tavakkoli said of the 45,101 deaths since the beginning of the current year (ends March 20), 5,885 were reported to have died of heart failure - 94 of whom were infants, 3,252 men and 2,539 women - the biggest category among the total deaths registered. Among the overall deaths, 25,750 were men and 17,229 were women, he said quoted by ISNA.
