Nearly 28,600 people with HIV have been identified in the country, said Abbas Sedaghat, head of the AIDS control office at the ministry of health.
According to reports, 66% of HIV infected patients visit treatment and counseling centers only once a year. “All steps in prevention, detection and control of AIDS is completely confidential,” IRNA quoted Sedaghat as saying.
The number of people living with HIV across the world rose from around 8 million in 1990 to 34 million at the end of 2011.
