Health Minister Seyyed Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi regretted the lack of insurance and support for many diseases and said “we hope to improve the country’s health care coverage so that people are not impoverished due to their illnesses.”
At present, there are certain diseases which are not protected by insurance including mental illnesses. Such ailments affect the entire family “as their peace of mind and security is threatened.” State-run hospitals can hospitalize mentally ill patients just for two weeks, ILNA quoted him as saying.
Also for age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s no measures have been taken under any system, he added.
