Annually, 50 million fractures occur in the country and 10,000 people lose their lives due to complications resulting from broken bones, said Seyyed Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi, health minister.

He also warned that “due to inadequate dairy products consumption people’s height would reduce and there will be shorter Iranians in the future.” Low consumption of dairy products mostly stem from change in food habits. People may spend a lot on junk food such as chocolates and snacks, but they don’t pay attention to drinking two glasses of milk per day,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying.

From among every two Iranian women and three Iranian men over age 40, one is affected by osteoporosis.
