Importing medicines that are locally available or manufactured in the country is prohibited. Only specific drugs for certain incurable diseases, which doctors might sometimes prescribe for their patients in case local ones are not effective or available, is allowed, said Akbar Abdollahi Asl, an official at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Health ministry has directed pharmaceutical companies to purchase and use all raw materials produced domestically, IRNA reported.
The measures have been taken to support and protect the local pharmaceutical sector.
