The Eighth Meeting of Tour Guides will be held in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi Province, on February 17 – 20, CHTN quoted the public relation office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) in Khorasan Razavi Province as saying.
It is estimated that 800 tour guides will participate in the event, tourism deputy of the provincial ICHHTO Seyed Javad Musavi said. A number of government officials and private industry leaders, will also attend.
Particular attention will be paid to cultural aspects, including the Silk Road, tourism potentials, capacities of Khorasan Razavi Province compared to other places, cooperation between tour-guides, ICHHTO decisions, the tourism committee of the Majlis, introduction of tourism industry leaders to the tour-guides, and creating awareness of the province’s handicrafts and heritage, including the original music school of Khorasani.
Sixteen committees have convened for better coordination of the tasks. The guild association of tour-guides is responsible for administration and finance.
Every year on February 21, the International Tourist Guide Day, the center of guild associations of Iranian tourist guides, holds a large event in different cities such as Tehran, Yazd, Tabriz, Ramsar, Khuzestan, Urumia, and Kerman, Mussavi said.
The event includes visits to tourist attractions, training workshops, and souvenirs, handicrafts, and food stalls.
Foreign guests usually participate in the meeting. They are from the World Federation of Tourist Guides, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO), embassies, and tour companies.
