Hotel Star Rating for Use of Handicrafts

The Handicrafts Department at Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization has proposed a scheme whereby one of the stars given to hotels will be for their use of handicrafts and traditional arts in their interior design.

Bahman Namvar Motlaq, deputy for handicrafts at ICHHTO, said the star, which will have a blue color, will encourage hoteliers to use local arts and crafts. "It will help promote Iranian handicrafts," he was quoted as saying by ISNA.

Motlaq noted that the plan was approved long ago but due to frequent changes in the organization's upper management, its implementation has been delayed. Iran, together with China and India, is among the world’s top three producers of handicrafts.
