First vice president Es’haq Jahangiri, inaugurated the renovated area of Simin village during his visit to Hamedan.

The old historical texture of the village was restored by the Housing Foundation as part of a larger plan to optimize, renovate, and fortify rural residential units, known as rural Guide Plan, MNA reported.

Speaking at the ceremony, Jahangiri considered the pervasive problems of the rural areas and added that 30% of the country’s population lives in villages.

They play an important role in agriculture and food production contributing greatly to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).

To attain comprehensive development, the government should attend to villages, agriculture, and animal husbandry on priority”, he asserted.

A total of 1,700 rural residential units have been already renovated or improved in 61 villages; where possible, the old texture was preserved.

Jahangiri noted that to construct 200,000 rural housing units per year as targeted in the Fifth and Sixth Five-year Economic Development Plans, about $111 million (3,000 billion rials) is needed and hoped that by allocating the funds, the housing plan in rural areas would be accelerated.
