On average, 55% of Iranian families travel every year, registering some 250 million trips annually, an official at the Statistical Center of Iran said. According to Seyyed Hassan Peyman, 13% of all domestic trips are to Gilan Province, 11% to Mazandaran Province and 9% to Khorasan Razavi Province, IRNA reported. Gilan and Mazandaran have become popular destinations for Iranians during long weekends and any time during the year when there are at least two consecutive days off. Mashhad, the provincial capital in Khorasan Razavi Province, is home to the shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH), the eighth Shia Imam.
