The construction of an international water sport complex in Bushehr Province started last week, following an inauguration ceremony attended by Minister for Sports and Youth Masoud Soltanifar.

The complex will be built over 300,000 square meters within Bushehr Tourism Village, Mehr News Agency reported.

"The province has the largest marine borders, which give it a great potential for the development of water and sea sports," he said. Soltanifar noted that investment in infrastructures will not only create a decent space for sports and youth's recreational activities, but also contribute to the development of tourism.

According to Ahmad Behrouzidar, director of Bushehr's provincial office of Sports Ministry, once complete, the sport center will be the largest in the country. Work began last year on the construction of a floating five-star hotel with 100 suites in the tourism village.

Located off the Persian Gulf coast, the province of Bushehr boasts more than 700 kilometers of coastlines where beachgoers can enjoy the sun, sand and a variety of other water sports. About 80% of Bushehr have a coastline alongside the Persian Gulf. Its tourism potentials have largely been overlooked in favor of the region’s massive oil and gas reserves.
