In a move to familiarize the public with Lut Desert, Iran's first and only natural world heritage site, commemorative stamps depicting various attractions in the vast desert have been issued. The 16 stamps are available at the South Khorasan Province's Central Post Office in Birjand and the post office in Nehbandan, also in the same province.

"The stamps help introduce the region's attractions," Zahra Rezaei, manager of the world heritage site, was also quoted as saying by IRNA. Lut is a vast salt desert spanning the provinces of South Khorasan, Sistan-Baluchestan and Kerman. It was inscribed on the World Heritage List last year, becoming Iran's 21st entry and first natural site on the list.

The 25th largest desert in the world is also one of the hottest places on Earth, which recorded the highest temperature ever measured on the planet in 2005: 70.7 degrees Celsius.
