The Association of Ecolodges has set new rates for ecolodges, in cooperation with Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

Based on the new regulations, ecolodges that offer "complete breakfast" charge 750,000 rials ($20) per guest for a room no smaller than 9 square meters. The rate goes up to 1.5 million rials ($39) for two people if the room is at least 12 sq. m.

The price of a suite for three people staying in an 18 sq. m. room has been set at 2.1 million rials ($55) and a suite for four people with a minimum area of 25 sq. m. will cost 2.6 million rials ($68).

The capacity of the room can go up by one person for every 10 sq. m. and the establishment can charge 20% extra.

Value-added tax is not included in the above-mentioned rates.

Children under the age of two are admitted free of charge and children of ages 2-12 are charged half-price.

The "complete breakfast" must include bread, locally-produced cheese and butter, cucumbers, tomato, jam, eggs and tea.

Subject to the approval of local tourism authorities, business owners can set their own prices for lunch, dinner and other additional services. All rates must be displayed.

Upon a guest's request, the property must issue a signed and sealed invoice.

The tariffs were determined in a recent meeting between the members of the association and representatives of ICHHTO. It was then approved by ICHHTO's Tourism Department and notified to all business owners.

Akbar Rezvanian, secretary of the Association of Ecolodges, said the rates are set for the current year and will probably change after ecolodges are graded in terms of quality.

"Business owners can charge less than the fixed prices, but are not allowed to charge more," he said, adding that they're also allowed to offer discount packages.
