Tehran hotels will offer up to 40% discounts to Norouz (Iranian New Year) tourists during March 21 - April 2, said the head of the Association of Tehran Hotels and Hotel Apartments.
"Norouz is the best time to enjoy Tehran's sites as it becomes much less crowded," said Mohammad Ali Farrokhmehr, ISNA reported.
The news comes only days after Ali Rafiei, tourism deputy at the provincial office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, said his office was in talks with business owners to offer discounts in the accommodation and hospitality sectors.
The plan is aimed at promoting the capital city as a holiday destination during the New Year holidays, when the city grows quiet, the air becomes clean and traffic virtually becomes non-existent. Hotel prices are set by the association and approved by ICHHTO.
Farrokhmehr stressed that the price lists must be put up in clear view in hotels, noting that they are also available online on the websites of the hotels association and ICHHTO.
"In case of violation, guests will be refunded and the offending hotel will be fined by the Tazirat Organization (a judiciary-affiliated entity that monitors trading crimes based on Islamic judicial law )," he said.
