Azerbaijan has started issuing e-visas for Iranian nationals in the latest step taken by either country to develop bilateral tourism ties. “The move aims to facilitate visa procedures for our Iranian friends,” IRIB News quoted Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hikmat Hajiyev as saying. The visa application, available at (evisa.gov.az), takes three minutes to complete and three days to be approved. “The visas are issued for 30 days. Should a tourist need a longer visa, they need to visit our embassy,” the official said. The e-visa scheme is available for 81 countries, including Iran. Tourists from Azerbaijan need not apply for Iranian visas, as they get visa on arrival for up to 30 days. Tehran and Baku are said to be in talks to waive visa requirements altogether.
