An Italian company is exploring investment opportunities in restoring historical buildings in Iran that are under the control of the Fund for Restoration and Administration of Historical and Cultural Places. Raniero Botti, director of Sycamore Architectural Company, said in a meeting with Mohammad Reza Pouyandeh, the head of the fund, that his company is familiar with the fund and how it operates. "We're currently exploring various opportunities for collaboration," he was quoted as saying by Donyayesafar.com. Outlining the fund's responsibilities, Pouyandeh said his office is able "to prepare the ground for Italians' investment" in the sector. Pouyandeh has made it a mission to restore and tender historical and cultural sites to involve private investors in cultural heritage restoration. The sites are in turn converted into lodging facilities to help increase Iran's capacity to host more tourists. Iranian and Italian experts are currently working to restore and protect Pasargadae, a world heritage site in Fars Province, close to the ruins of Persepolis, another world heritage site.
