A memorandum of understanding between the provinces of Semnan and Mazandaran on a tourism scheme called 'From Shore to Desert' has been finalized and will soon be signed by the provincial governor-generals. The terms of the MoU were discussed late last week in a meeting between the governors of the two provinces. Despite their vastly different climates, the provinces share a number of natural features, according to Ahmad Hosseinzadegan, governor of Sari County in Mazandaran. "There are also a lot of cultural similarities that must be promoted and used to develop tourism," he added, ISNA reported. Despite being a popular holiday destination among Iranians, Mazandaran is mostly visited for its beaches, whereas it also has a plethora of historical places and unexplored forests, Hosseinzadegan noted. "The Semnan-Mazandaran economic development plan has to be devised with a special focus on tourism," he said. Abbas Danaei, Semnan's governor, also said that the authorities of both provinces have prioritized tourism in their regional development plans. "We try to focus on common tourism potentials of Semnan and Mazandaran in our attempts to turn the provinces into popular destinations," he said.
