Tourism potentials and investment opportunities of the Iranian province of Kurdestan were introduced to a Japanese delegation on Saturday, during a meeting with local tourism and cultural heritage authorities.
As announced by the public relations office at the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Seyyed Mohsen Alavi, the head of the organization, pointed to the province's unexplored tourism potentials, the development of which can bring about economic growth and job creation, among other benefits.
"We welcome investments by Japanese investors in various fields," he said, hoping that the meeting would serve as a step toward securing funds for new and ongoing projects.
One of the 17 foreign delegations visiting Kurdestan during the last three years, the Japanese group was referred to provincial authorities by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, IRNA reported.
According to Hossein Firouzi, deputy governor general for commercial affairs and resource development, attracting foreign investment would help save domestic financial resources, i.e. loans from banks and the National Development Fund, for Iranian investors.
Located in the west of Iran, Kurdestan Province is home to 211 sites of historical and cultural significance. For instance, Hajar Khatoon Mosque in the provincial capital Sanandaj and Qaleh Kohneh in Bijar date back to the Sassanid era (224-651 AD).
Two sites—the village of Uraman and Karaftou Cave—are on UNESCO's Tentative World Heritage List.
