During construction operations in Tehran's Baharestan Street last week, a skull dating back to 3,000 years was discovered. "Thinking the skull was related to a crime, the workers called the police, but studies revealed that the bone was at least 100 years old, so cultural heritage authorities were contacted," said Rajabali Khosroabadi, the head of Tehran's Office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization. Through further excavations by archeologists at ICHHTO, several pieces of earthenware were unearthed, which helped determine the age of the skull, Khabaronline reported. The skull and other discovered objects have been transferred to the organization's Archeological Research Center for more studies. The area where the discoveries were made has been barricaded by the police and construction work is temporarily suspended to allow further excavation.
