The primary plan to establish a track along the Khorramshahr-Abadan shoreline in Khuzestan Province has been prepared and an investment package will soon be presented to attract finance from the private sector.

The project will be carried out under the supervision of Arvand Free Zone Organization in cooperation with the provincial office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.

Pointing to the massive, untapped potential of Khuzestan’s coasts, Khosro Neshan, the head of Khuzestan’s ICHHTO office, said a variety of tour packages, including natural, marine and religious, can be organized in the area, MANA reported.

“By including a number of petrochemical plants in the vicinity, the area can also enable the launch of industrial tours,” he said, adding that it can derive substantial benefit from its proximity to the Arvand Free Zone.

He added that a wide range of facilities such as recreational piers and temporary lodging centers will be built along the banks of Arvand River that runs through Abadan and Khorramshahr.

“Similar projects, along the banks of Karoun and Bahmanshir rivers, have also been envisioned in future plans since each of the rivers has a number of tributaries that provide excellent conditions for tourism,” Neshan said.

Sajjad Pakgohar, the head of ICHHTO’s office in Khorramshahr County, pointed to the province’s capacity for marine tourism and its potential to become a hub for this niche tourism in southern Iran, adding that a route from Khorramshahr to Ahvaz is very likely to be the next project.

“Private investors interested in funding these projects can apply for loans offered by ICHHTO and AFZO,” he was quoted as saying by the news agency.

“Financial support is also available to purchase and launch cruise ships in the waters of Khorramshahr and Abadan,” Pakgohar said.
