The number of airports offering visa-on-arrival will increase to 13 in a month, according to Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization. Airport visas are currently offered at nine airports (Tehran’s Imam Khomeini, Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz, Tabriz, Bandar Abbas, Lorestan, Kish and Qeshm) and will soon be issued in four more airports across the country (Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport and airports in Yazd, Ahvaz and Urmia), Mehr News Agency reported. Last year, Iran extended the duration of VoAs to 30 days, up from 15, before being extended to three months earlier this year. Iran offers airport visas to residents of 190 countries. Iran has mutually abolished the visa regime with Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia in recent months. Masoud Soltanifar, the head of ICHHTO, has said Tehran will waive visa requirements for two other as-of-yet unnamed countries in the coming months in a reciprocal move.
