Visa Waiver Helping Armenia

The waiver of visa regime between Iran and Armenia has already led to an influx of tourists. In an article published on Armenpress.am, Armenia’s Meghry Customs Checkpoint in the province of Syunik reports that “the transportation of passengers has significantly increased” following the abolition of visa regime earlier this month. The article also said Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan has instructed officials to “minimize the time needed for passengers’ transportation” and “to make the border crossing a smooth affair”. Armenia is known to be a favorite destination for Iranian tourists. Iran also has a sizable ethnic Armenian community estimated at between 70,000 and 200,000.
