Restarting direct flights between Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province and Baku, capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan is a possibility in the near future, according to a senior tourism official. Ahmad Hamzezadeh, tourism deputy at the provincial office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, said the resumption of direct flights between the two cities was a subject that came up during a visit by Azeri President Ilham Aliyev and his Tourism Minister Abolfazl Qarayev to Iran’s pavilion at the Azerbaijan International Travel and Tourism Fair (April 7-9), the Persian daily Donya-e-Eqtesad reported. “Mr. Qarayev expressed interest in waiving visa requirements with Iran and welcomed the reestablishment of direct flights,” Hamzezadeh said.
