An exhibition of tourism and associated industries will be held in Kerman Province, May 9-13, according to the head of the provincial office of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Mahmoud Vafae.
The five-day event will be held in Baqein, a city in central Kerman, Mehr News Agency reported.
“In addition to cultural and historical attractions, handicrafts, souvenirs, local cuisine and pastries will be on display,” the official said, adding that it is imperative to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the expo to promote Kerman’s tourism potential.
Located in southern Iran, Kerman is brimming with historical, cultural and natural attractions. It is home to two world heritage sites — Bam Citadel and Meymand Village — and the Shahdad Desert that is the hottest spot on the planet.
Efforts are underway to inscribe Lut Desert, which encompasses large swaths of the province, on the UNESCO world heritage list.
On May 2, Kerman will also host a one-of-a-kind eight-day international desert marathon which will be attended by over 100 participants from countries spanning four continents—Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.
Called the Iranian Silk Road Ultramarathon, the event will make history as it will be the first of its kind since the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and where men and women will compete alongside one another, according to realiran.com.
