The building housing the former British Consulate in Kerman Province will be restored and repurposed into an oil museum, a high-ranking provincial official has said.
“Approximately 25 billion rials ($725,000) has been earmarked for the project,” Abolqasem Seyfollahi, deputy for construction affairs at the Kerman Governorate, was quoted as saying by ISNA.
Establishment of the museum is part of a comprehensive plan by the Oil Ministry and the Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization to familiarize the public with the century-old history of Iran’s oil and gas industry. Two other museums in the oil cities of Abadan and Masjed Soleiman in the south, as well as one in Tehran, will also be established soon.
